I'm talking about Parent Conference night.
I see your thoughts now turning to, "OOOHHH that was sarcasm!"
You're darn tootin' it was. I don't know why, but as I was thinking about how many extra hours we would be at school today, I just kept trying to tell myself, "OH isn't this wonderful, parents who are concerned and want to do what's best by their child." And for some reason, that Christmas song popped in my head.
How do you do parent conferences?
In our system, we have from 4p.m.-7p.m. and depending on what school you're at, your conferences can be scheduled in 15 or 30 minute intervals. At my school they are 15 minutes. That's only 12 slots, so we don't have to have ALL parents come in. Which I know some of you have to.
We send out a form to all parents and circle yes or no to whether or not we want a conference and then give them the chance to circle yes or no. If I need to see them, they have a choice of their 3 best times and then I schedule from there.
After the schedule is set and parents are notified of their correct time, then I fill out a triplicate form of Strengths, Concerns and Suggestions.
It's pretty easy, until you get down to your kiddos that you have a hard time finding strengths for or the parents who want one with you and you don't really have a concern.
I totally had something else written here and then I decided against it. As much as I want to vent about tiptoeing around parents feelings and making sure that everything sounds positive..blah blah blah...I just can't do it.
Yes, because I know I have 2 or 3 current parents reading =) I see you out there! I know you're lurking on my blog and you know it's probably not your child I'm talking about anyway.
I'm just cranky tonight. I'm writing this in between conference times and I didn't get my nap after work. But at least I have no kids tomorrow. It's a work day for us so we will be in PLC's and Common Core Meetings...Can you hear the song sarcastically playing in my head again?!
I hope you all had a Thrilling Thursday!

We have PTC coming up Oct 18th..11-6. we send a sheet with times slots available every 15 min and parents sign up for 1st choice, 2nd choice, and 3rd choice. I try to accommodate all parent schedules but especially the ones I need to see. typically its first ones to send it back get first choice.
ReplyDeleteOurs isn't until the end of October - we have an entire Monday with no kids to fit as many conferences as possible - 15 minute time slots, then the rest of the week is min. days to do the rest. All parents need a time to meet. The office posts our schedules (we choose what breaks we want), and parents sign up for their own time slot the week before conferences.
