Someone New Sunday

Today I would like you to meet Brigid from:

Grade you teach: I teach First Grade

Where do you teach? I teach in Missouri

How long have you been teaching?
I have been teaching for 7 years.   I started out as a Teacher's Assistant.  Then moved onto First Grade and love it! I have been at the same school and couldn't imagine being anywhere else! I have wonderful coworkers, families, and students.

What is your teaching "style"?
I would say I am a middle of the road kinda gal...I set expectations, but am VERY flexible and love to have fun while teaching!  I want my kids to love school and reach their social and academic goals.  I like to differentiate and engage my students to make sure they all succeed.  I make sure I have a lot of visuals, hands-on activities, and movement! We have fun in first grade!

What is your favorite "teacher" book?
Hmmm this is a good question! There are so many its hard to pick one! I love anything Fountas and Pinnell, I just read Daily Five this summer and like some of the ideas that come from this book!  Another great book is Growing Readers.  I can't forget anything by Timothy Rasinski!

What is your most memorable teaching moment?
I think this is a hard question because there are so many.  First grade is a year for many "firsts", for many of my students.  The best I moment is when a student has an "a-ha" moment! I love that..their face shows it all!  Many students come into first grade needing skills and strategies to help them read.  When they leave first grade, they are all reading books and loving it.  Every year I have students draw a picture and write about themselves on the first and last day of school.  Every student cannot believe how much they have grown.  They all laugh at their drawing and writing from the first day of school.  Some even say they can't read their writing and think its the funniest thing in the world. I really need to take a picture and share this moment this year! First grade kids can and will say anything!  I have heard so many stories, I probably should have started a book!

Why did you start your blog?
I started my blog to focus on my experiences and creations as a first grade teacherI love to talk, create, and teach...so I thought this would be a perfect way to share with everyone. I have been inspired by other teaching blogs and I hope that could inspire other teachers in some way!

Where else can we find you?

Do you have a freebie you would like to share?
I have A LOT of freebies at my store that I am sure there is something there for all of you! Here is an example of one freebie item you can find at my store!

I also have a "Classroom Tours" linky party going on! Anyone can link up to show off your classroom.  It is also another great way to get inspirations from other classrooms!  Check it out!

So go check out Brigid's blog today and see all of the great things she has going on! If you would like to be featured, please send me an email at laurastarnes@ymail.com. I'm already booking Sunday's into September! That makes me excited because that means I've been doing this for an entire year!!!! Wow!!!
