Want to know what I've done now? Well, it's actually something that I've done before and for some reason when I moved schools, I stopped doing it.
But, my lovely friend Staci from
convinced me that I needed to do it again. You can click on her button and it will take you to her post about her container obsession and her crayon organization.
While I was out shopping, I found that Sterilite now makes a small drawer set with FIVE drawers instead of three! How awesome is that. I can store my crayons AND not take up tons of space with 3 or 4 sets of drawers. I didn't like stacking them, because I just knew a kiddo would knock them down (and they did!). So this is an answer to ALL of my problems.
I also made labels for the drawers and taped them on the inside, like the tool box idea.
Forgive the orange look in the before picture...I should've used a flash and I didn't. Here is the full picture of the end result.
I am REALLY loving the polka dot frames from
So that's how I made the labels. And I know that you would LOVE a set for your own, right?
Well, click the pic and grab a copy for yourself! And please, feel free to pin!!

Ok now you create me one :)

Thanks! Love these. I tried doing one drawer for every color, but it was too tall and my kids kept knocking them over. So now I am going to use this instead.

Thanks so much! Organizing my crayons is on my list of "TO DO's" this summer. Now I won't have to figure out how to make my own labels.

So question: Why do you have crayons color sorted? Is it for those broken crayons that you want to get rid of but don't want to throw away? I am trying to be more organized this year and I just can't understand the crayon organization. Please help!

Hi Desiree,
DeleteMy kiddos get a box of crayons for their personal use, sometimes 1 or 2 of those important colors get lost. I'll have this drawer ready so they don't have to bother me or their classmates to borrow a color. They can just simply get up, go to the drawer and get the color they need. Also, if crayons are found on the floor and they don't have an owner, they can be put in the box for later use.
Hope this helps! =)
Laura
Thanks Laura. I now understand about the crayon organization. I know that many teachers do it differently and it is nice to see a new idea. My kids have table crayon buckets but yes I did notice when we were doing American flags we could never find enough blues or reds. So I might try this in my room this year and I have the perfect place for it. Thanks for the help.
